ESPN's Bait and Switch Tactics

I'd like to take a post to highlight a symptom of summer that Kevin and John G. pointed out to me the other day...Summer is the sports doldrums.

No football. No basketball. No exciting sports activities of any substance. Baseball? Let's be honest. Watching baseball on TV is NOT the same as watching a football game or a basketball game in real life, or even on television for that matter. That's because, as my long-standing theory prescribes, any game that can be won by a margin of 1-0 is NOT A GAME WORTH WATCHING! Although baseball games can be fun to go to in real life, just for the experience.

31-28? That's a game.
17-3? That's a game as well.
110-98? Also a game.

But 1-0? Come on.

Summer means hot weather AND we're hard up for sports...just meandering through meaningless horse races, bowling, and IndyCar races until NFL pre-season starts on August 3. But if that weren't bad enough, let me say one more thing. I came home this afternoon, noting that a soccer game was supposed to be televised that evening on ESPN2. I figured, Hey, sounds great. I'll have that on while I pack my stuff and Kyle's stuff for this weekend out of town. Yes, soccer can also be won by a margin of 1-0, the same as baseball, but at least soccer features non-stop, continuous action for 90 minutes...as opposed to baseball. However, much to my chagrin, when the appointed hour of 6:00 p.m. rolled around, I turned to ESPN2 only to find a WNBA game in progress. Now, I don't wanna say anything to piss anyone off. And as an attorney, and a chick, I fully believe that women are capable of doing almost anything that a guy can do. However, that doesn't include professional sports. Girls shouldn't play professional sports any more than boys should be cheerleaders. And for ESPN to bait and switch us, by representing that a real sporting event is going to be broadcast at 6:00 p.m., at a point in the month where all the other channels are devoid of real sports, just to get everyone's hopes up to watch a real game and then to switch it to the WNBA with no warning whatsoever? Well...that ain't right. Enough said.

Bankruptcy Article

I just had an article come out in June's issue of the Communique, which is the monthly magazine of the Clark County Bar Association. It's on the subject of resolving and hearing civil discovery disputes...I know, a real barn-burner, right? I've already had a couple calls from people who read the story. As an added bonus, it's actually the "center spread" of the magazine, or, if you drop the magazine off your desk, the page that it automatically opens to because that's how the pages are bound. I jokingly refer to the Communique as "the only magazine that will give me a centerfold." HAHA!

Anyway, I'm waiting for Teresa to scan it and upload it to the law firm website. As soon as it's there, I'll post a link to it. Until then, please enjoy this article that I wrote a couple of summers ago on another barn-burner topic, Judicial Estoppel and Bankruptcy Claims. Please try to contain your excitement:

Pool time

Put on your swimming diapers, everyone: with the daily high temperature in the three digits, it's nice to pop in the pool in the afternoons to cool off. Here are some pictures from yesterday's pool time.

Kyle and Mommy's busy, busy weekend

Hey everyone! It's been a busy weekend so far. Kyle and I got lots done yesterday. I took a slightly different tack with my list-making activities yesterday. Usually, I make a list of everything that I need to do, and then cross each item off as I accomplish it. Yesterday, however, I decided to make a list of things that I did do, as opposed to focusing on the things that I didn't get done. So, here's a list of what I did yesterday, along with my own commentary about each activity, where appropriate:

1. Walked 3 miles with Kyle in the stroller (6:45 a.m. to 7:35 a.m.)(Gotta get this one done early in the morning...you definitely don't want to leave it until the afternoon in the LV during June!)(I've got 68 days before my Mexico trip to melt off 5 pounds. Actually, the 5 pounds can stay; I don't care. It's the gross, bumpy cellulite that needs to get lost.)

2. Started dinner in the Crock-Pot...marinated chicken with red potatoes and apricots. (No, it's not weird to mix fruit and meat, despite what some people might think. And, it turned out well. Really! It did!)

3. Washed my dirty sheets, dried them, and put them away.

4. Changed the sheets on Kyle's crib and my bed.

5. Unloaded dishwasher.

6. Washed, dried, and folded white clothes.

7. Swept and mopped kitchen floor and entryway. (This sucked.)

8. Took a shower and got ready.

9. Researched booking airport/hotel transfers and activities for Cabo in Expedia and TripAdvisor. (Yes, I know that this is not a "chore" in the true sense, but it is still something that needed to be done.)

10. Paid bills online.

11. Took Kyle to the mall to get him a duffel bag from the Nike store. (This is so I don't have to pack his stuff in an empty diaper box anymore!)(Walking around an open-air mall when it's 107 outside while pushing a stroller and getting the door to Banana Republic slammed in front of you by an 80-pound Japanese chick wearing a Coach hat and Manolo Blahniks stiletto heels sucks.)(All I can say is, if I didn't have to worry about maintaining my bar license, I'd get into a lot more fist fights, because there are a lot of deserving people at the mall and other places that need to learn common courtesy, or to be snapped in half like a twig, or both.)

12. Made pasta salad.

13. Ate dinner and cleaned up kitchen.

14. Washed the colored laundry. (Wait. That sounds kind of racist, but I don't know what else to call it...Multi-hued-American laundry?

15. Started reading new book by NBA referee Bill Delaney about his time spent in the 1970s working undercover with the New Jersey State Police, infiltrating the mob. (What I should be doing instead is studying for the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam...ugh, ugh, ugh.)

Okay, here are more cute pictures that I downloaded from the camera recently:

Here's Kyle, playing with his toy farm truck. He loves this thing! He loads up the back with plastic blocks and then drives it around. It doesn't take too long before the truck tips over (Mr. Cow is not a very good driver) and the blocks all spill out. Kyle then re-loads the blocks and starts over:

Here are Jeff and Kyle, looking super cute and cuddly. This is from last Friday, I think. Poor Kyle. We ran from one activity to the next that day. We went to breakfast, to the Las Vegas Metro fingerprint bureau so that I could get my fingerprints done, swimming in the pool in the afternoon, then a trip to the doctor to get make-up shots, then down to the Yardhouse for dinner with Kevin and Cora and Asa and Kristol. Then, we swung by CVS for an emergency run for Aloe Vera and Tylenol! By the time we were done, he just crashed!

This picture cracks me up. I love how he sleeps with his feet up under him and his bum up in the air. (And no, that's not a pee-stain on his bum...he spilled milk out of his bottle and then sat in it.)

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Whew! It's Friday!

Hooray, everyone! It's Friday and and finally an end to a long work week. Kyle and I are looking forward to just chilling around the house, playing with toys, and getting some chores and errands done. We'll be spending a lot of time inside -- it's hot outside! I realized that I haven't updated the blog in awhile...so here are some cute pictures and videos of the K-monster in action:

Kyle eats green beans here. He's been eating a lot of big people food lately. He actually loves his vegetables:

Kyle plays with the Jazz cheer stick that we got about four months ago. He's a huge Jazz fan, even in the off season:

He looks EXACTLY like my brother did when he was a baby in this picture:

Here's a video of Kyle showing off his latest skill: waving bye-bye:

Have a fabulous weekend, everyone!

Kyle's latest adventure

This morning, I had Kyle in the bathroom with me with as I was getting ready. He loves to pull himself up on the tub and scoot around, just to see what he can see. I had a bottle of red nail polish sitting on the edge of the tub. He picked it up (the cap was screwed on tight) and crawled around on the floor with it in his hand, banging on the floor as he went. He crawled over next to me while I was standing in front of the mirror doing my hair. Bang bang bang, went the nail polish against the floor. All of a sudden, the banging stopped. I looked down and he had somehow gotten the top off the bottle and red nail polish was pouring out of the bottle all over his feet and hands (he was only wearing a diaper) and the white bathroom rug (thank goodness I don't have carpet!) The rug will need to be replaced but that's cheap. Although it's not that funny to have to buy a new bathroom rug, the look on his face as he stared at the red nail polish on his hands was priceless....so I had to snap this picture. Look at how well he did the abstract streaks of red, contrasting with the white of the rug. Perhaps he is a post-modernist artist in training? Haha! He is such a little monkey, getting into everything!!

Here's a cute picture of him from the other day. It's getting harder and harder to get a good still shot of him, though...he just moves too fast!

Fun with Kyle and Mommy

Kyle and I had lots of fun this past weekend during our trip to Utah. Although the weekend ended much too quickly, we were able to visit the Cabela's store in Lehi and look at all of the fish in the aquarium, to go to Wheeler Farm and visit with the animals, and to the Red Butte Garden at the University of Utah to look at the beautiful flowers. Here are a few highlights from the weekend:

Kyle gets ready to go...it was chilly this weekend, so luckily we had a warm jacket!

Here's Kyle checking out the ducks at Wheeler Farm:

Some of the ducks were as big as he is!

Breakfast at IHOP. Kyle ate eggs, pancakes, and strawberries:

Here's Kyle and I at the Red Butte Garden (yes, I know I look a little chunky here):

Here we are at the park:

Have a great week, everyone!
